Age Group Changes in 2026-2027
As we prepare for the 2026/27 season, we want to assure you that our commitment to each player's growth remains our top priority. While we are transitioning to grade-based teams, we will thoughtfully consider each player's development and experience. Our approach will use grade as a starting point, but we will maintain the flexibility to place players where they can thrive. We understand the importance of team connections, and we will strive to balance development with continuity.

Why is the club moving to grade-based teams?
US Soccer is transitioning from birth-year teams to grade-based teams. As a club, we are aligning with this shift while continuing to prioritize what’s best for each player. Will my child stay with their current team?
Whenever possible, we will prioritize both player development and team continuity. We understand how important team connections are, and we will work to keep groups together when it supports the players’ overall development. That said, placement decisions will always be made based on what best supports each player. Can my player move up or down a team?
Yes—when appropriate and allowable. While grade will serve as a starting point, we will maintain flexibility to place players where they are best supported in their development.
Per OYSA guidelines, younger players may play up with older age groups when appropriate, but older players are not permitted to play down into younger age groups. How are team placement decisions made?
Decisions are based on a combination of factors, including:
~Player ability and development needs
~Training and game performance
~Physical and social development
~Long-term player growth
Our goal is to place each player in an environment where they can succeed and continue improving. My player has an August birthday, not July—how does that work?
The US Soccer framework is applied nationwide, while Oregon schools follow a slightly different calendar. A player’s current grade level will serve as the starting point for team placement, with flexibility to adjust when it best supports their development.Who makes the final decision on teams?
Final team decisions are made at the club level to ensure consistency across all teams and age groups. Will this impact the level of competition?
Our goal is to maintain appropriate levels of competition for all players. Team formation will continue to reflect both development and competitive balance. What if my child is between levels or has unique circumstances?
We recognize that every player develops differently. We will continue to evaluate players individually and make thoughtful decisions based on their specific needs. When will we know team placements?
Team placements will be determined during the tryout process, where players are evaluated and placed into appropriate environments based on their development.Who can I contact with questions?
